Structured Cabling
Entry: /facilities/cabling. Cabling owns panels, endpoints, exclusive terminations, complete patch routes and connection history. Have a verified physical plan, port labels, medium and connector information. Linked equipment requires authorized access to its owner; standalone endpoints support Cabling work without a peer integration.
Register the physical endpoints#
- Open Panels & endpoints → Panels and choose Create Panel. Enter the code, location and port labels, then the applicable panel use, medium, connector and installation information.
- Open Endpoints and choose Register Endpoint. Enter its code and display name, select its kind, medium and connector, and select an authorized linked resource when needed.
- For cross-rack rear mappings, open Connections & routes → Mappings & capacity and create the allocation between the exact local and remote panels and port ranges.
- Review the saved panels, endpoint names and available capacity against the surveyed physical arrangement.
Record a complete patch route#
- Open Connections & routes → Patch routes and choose Install Patch Route.
- Enter the Patching Request ID and optional change reference. Select the two end endpoints, medium and ordered transit Panel Ports.
- Review the entire ordered path before submitting. Where your installed release offers guided path diagnostics or recommendations, use them to check a candidate; a recommendation alone is not an installed route.
- After success, open Physical trace in the route row. Verify endpoint order, cable segments and mapping evidence against the actual work.
Disconnect or repatch with history#
- Locate the connected route and open its Settings. Choose the permitted whole-route disconnect or repatch action.
- For repatching, review the new request, endpoints and ordered path. Supply the reason and confirm the current route version.
- Reopen the trace or endpoint history to verify the resulting state and retained previous terminations.
Blockers and boundaries: occupied endpoints, incompatible media/connectors, unavailable linked resources, repeated or invalid transit choices and changed record versions can reject a route. Resolve the physical and owner prerequisites rather than inventing spare ports. Single-Mode and Multi-Mode fiber are different choices. A Cable segment belonging to a managed route must be handled through that complete route, not independently disconnected. Cabling history records physical evidence; it does not configure VLANs, routing or switch ports, and a Facilities picture is not proof that a cable was connected.
Label and import cabling records#
- Panels and Cables show identifiers in the TIA-606 form
<site>.<room>-<rack>-<panel>:<port>. A validated override must be unique across Panels and Cables. - Print label sheets of 30 per page, up to 600 per request. Each label carries a QR code of the identifier.
- To load existing records, import Panels and Cables from CSV, up to 2,000 rows per file. The file is applied all at once or not at all.
